[EN] Evanescence's Amy Lee: 'I'd like to do something not driven by loud guitars' (NME.com)20/9/2012 The singer speaks about her hopes for making music outside of Evanescence Evanescence singer Amy Lee has spoken about her ambition to make music outside of the band, revealing that she'd like to do something "not driven by loud guitars" and that she is actively writing folk songs. The Arkansas rockers released their self-titled third studio album in October last year and Lee told NME yesterday that they will be taking a lengthy break after their UK arena tour in November. Then asked if she had any musical ambitions outside of the band, Lee confirmed that she did and also revealed that she went through a phase of wanting to make dance music in the vein of Portishead and Massive Attack. She said of this: "I like all types of music. I feel like Evanescence is a great outlet for what I love, I've never felt like I had to hold myself back. I have written with other people before and come up with ideas that don't work for Evanescence, I realize that now. There's more to me than what's in Evanescence." She continued: "I love folk, that's a big part of my background. I've written music that's a lot simpler and more acoustic and I got into a moment where I'm obsessed with dance music, things like Massive Attack and Portishead. I'd like to do something that's not driven by loud guitars, I love the aggression they bring, but I'd like to try something out."
Lee then said that she'd ruled out any dubstep experimentation as there were too many bands doing that already. She said when asked if she'd consider experimenting with dubstep: "I should have done it when it was first around, I can't do it now! I don't like doing what people expect, I'm not a bandwagon jumper." Before they go on a break, Evanescence will play a UK arena tour in early November, playing four shows. The band kick off the tour at Nottingham's Capital FM Arena on November 5, before moving on to Manchester Arena on November 6 and then Birmingham Indoor Arena on November 8. They finish up with a show at London's Wembley Arena on November 9. Support on the tour will come from The Used on all shows. Read more on NME.com
