QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
So far, Evanescence released "only" three albums, but very successful ones... always in the top 5 of the US, UK and German music charts. And so we took the opportunity to do an interview with Amy Lee during their extended tour.
entertaim.net: You have recorded three albums with Evanescence in a long time period compared to today's standards, because there were several years in between each. On the other hand, the records were very successful. Is that the key of your success?
Amy Lee: (laughs) Well, it takes as much time as needed. I don't like to push myself, and after an exhausting tour you need to take time off to get new and good ideas. It comes down to quality, not quantity. The fans see it the same way.
entertaim.net: You haven't been on stage for almost 4 years. How was it like when you played the first gig with a new album out?
Amy Lee: I was very nervous. How will the fans react to the new songs? How many fans will come after all? That drove me crazy for some time, but since our first shows were great, the nervousness was gone and I felt like I had never taken a break. It's indeed a very nice feeling to be on stage when the fans are enthusiastic.
entertaim.net: You've played many major festivals. What's more fun for you to play? The festivals or headlining tour?
Amy Lee: Both have their charms. During our own tour, it's obviously more about us, and the bond with the crowd is bigger. Big festivals have large crowds and the tension is bigger since you don't know what the non-fans expect. But you get new opportunities to convince and get new fans.
entertaim.net: When you released your debut album, you were still very young. Has anything changed for you in recent years, in terms of the perception of things, the music?
Amy Lee: Of course. A lot of things change with time. Meanwhile, I'm married, and with such a long tour, you can feel lonely sometimes when you spend time in hotel rooms. For me, the performances themselves are the highlights, I get very focused on what I'm doing, but in between the shows I've been homesick and I miss my husband and my family.
entertaim.net: But the euphoria remained since the debut album ...?
Amy Lee: (laughs) Of course!
entertaim.net: What about kids, now that you're married?
Amy Lee: I love babies, I love kids. Of course I want to have children someday. When, we'll see! (Laughs)
entertaim.net: And what about the fourth album? Do you already have some material?
Amy Lee: We still have not finished touring. You know, I take my time. Of course, there will be a fourth album someday ... it's gonna be exciting ...
entertaim.net: Thank you very much for your time ... then, talk to you when you release the next album, I'd say ...
Amy Lee: (laughs) You're welcome.
